The 6 Best Interactive Classroom Tools in 2026
Free to start, no card. Set up in about a minute.
The right classroom tool depends on what the projector should show: Kahoot! for timed quizzes with a leaderboard, Mentimeter for polls and word clouds inside a lesson deck, Padlet for a board students build over days, and QR Wall for every student's free-text answer or photo landing on the screen within about a second, with no student accounts. Mentimeter's education plans start at $8.99 per presenter per month and Kahoot!'s teacher plans at $3 a month, both billed annually.

Disclosure: QR Wall is our product. It appears once in this list, reviewed by the same standard as everything else, including where it is not the right choice. Education prices were read on each vendor's own site in October 2026; where a vendor did not show one, we say so instead of guessing.

The 6 tools, reviewed
1. Mentimeter
Best for: Polls, word clouds and quizzes inside a lesson deck • Starting price: Free (50 participants per month); Education Basic $8.99 per presenter per month, billed yearly (education prices checked October 2026 on the vendor's site; confirm before you buy)
Mentimeter turns a slide deck into an interactive lesson: multiple choice, scales, word clouds, open text and quizzes, with the results animating on the teacher's screen. It is the most polished choice when the activity is a question with answers you want to count or chart.
Education plans are discounted: Basic is $8.99 and Pro $14.99 per presenter per month, billed yearly, against $11.99 and $24.99 on the standard plans. The free plan caps participation at 50 people a month, so one class of 30 twice in a month already runs out.
Strengths
- ✓ The largest library of question types, with clean results on the projector
- ✓ Unlimited participants on every paid education plan
Watch out for
- – Free is 50 participants a month, not per lesson
- – Images are presenter-side only; students cannot post a photo of their work
2. Kahoot!
Best for: Timed quizzes and review games with a leaderboard • Starting price: Free Kahoot! Go; Kahoot!+ from $3/mo billed annually for 50 players (education prices checked October 2026 on the vendor's site; confirm before you buy)
Kahoot! is a game-show engine: timed multiple-choice rounds, music, streaks and a podium at the end. Nothing in this list beats it for revision before a test or for waking a class up after lunch, and students already know how it works.
Teacher plans are billed annually and priced by players per game: Bronze $3 a month for 50, Silver $7 for 100, Gold $12 for 200, and One $19 for 800. The free Go plan's limit is listed as 10 players per game in the vendor's FAQ and 40 in its feature table, so test with your class size before relying on it.
Strengths
- ✓ The strongest competitive energy of any tool here
- ✓ Cheap entry teacher plan at $36 a year
Watch out for
- – Answers are fixed choices, not free text or photos
- – Whole-school pricing is quote-only
3. QR Wallthat's us
Best for: Every student's free-text answer or photo on the projector, no accounts • Starting price: Free ($0); Premium $10.99/mo; Professional $19.99/mo
QR Wall puts a question on the projector with a QR code under it. Students scan with the phone camera, type a sentence or post a photo of their worksheet, and every answer lands on the screen in about a second, in a Slideshow or Grid view. Nobody signs up, and a post carries no name by default, which is what gets the quiet half of the room to answer. Teachers use it for icebreakers, vocabulary challenges, exit tickets and pledge walls.
It is not a quiz tool: there is no scoring, timer or leaderboard, so for revision games Kahoot! is the better pick. The free plan shows 5 answers at a time and keeps the first 30 per wall, enough for a warm-up; Premium ($10.99/month) keeps every answer on screen and downloadable, and Professional ($19.99/month) adds an approval queue on the teacher's phone and AI moderation of text and photos. School and university accounts and registered nonprofits get education pricing on Professional.
Strengths
- ✓ Free-text and photo answers from the whole class at once, live on the screen
- ✓ No student accounts; approval queue and AI moderation on Professional
Watch out for
- – No quizzes, scoring or charts of results
- – Free plan: 5 answers on screen at a time, first 30 per wall kept
4. Padlet
Best for: A board students build over days or weeks • Starting price: Free (3 padlets); Classroom from $160 per year for 2 teachers in the US (education prices checked October 2026 on the vendor's site; confirm before you buy)
Padlet is a collaborative board: students add posts, links, photos, audio and drawings to a wall, a timeline, a map or columns, and the board stays put between lessons. It is the best tool here for a project that grows over a week, a research board, or a gallery of work you come back to.
The free plan allows three padlets with 20 MB uploads. Padlet's help centre says Classroom plans start at $160 a year for US customers, for two teachers and 100 student accounts, and prices are localised in other countries. In a live lesson the board reads best on students' own screens; on a projector across the room expect to tidy the layout first.
Strengths
- ✓ The richest post types and board layouts
- ✓ Boards persist, so work builds over time
Watch out for
- – Three padlets on free fills up quickly across several classes
- – Designed for browsing a board, not for answers arriving live on a projector
5. Wooclap
Best for: Lecture halls that want many question formats and LMS links • Starting price: Free plan available; education plans: see their pricing page
Wooclap is built for higher education: around twenty question formats, including labelling an image and finding a point on it, plus quizzes, polls and a Message Wall, with integrations for the main learning platforms. When we checked in September 2026 the Message Wall accepted photos, shown as a chat-style feed.
Its general pricing page says every subscription is billed annually and the free Starter plan allows five questions per month. Education and academic plans are listed separately, and we could not read a price for them, so ask Wooclap for a quote.
Strengths
- ✓ The widest range of question formats
- ✓ Built around lecture halls and LMS integration
Watch out for
- – Five questions a month on the free plan
- – No readable education price; annual billing only
6. Slido
Best for: Anonymous Q&A with upvoting in a lecture or assembly • Starting price: Free (100 participants); education plans: see their pricing page
Slido, owned by Cisco, is the standard for moderated Q&A: students submit questions, often anonymously, and upvote the ones they want answered, alongside polls, quizzes and word clouds. It fits lectures, assemblies and parent evenings where the room asks and one person answers.
The free plan allows 100 participants per event. Slido sells education plans that require an institutional email and a verification step, but its pricing page did not show us an education price, so check it before budgeting.
Strengths
- ✓ Best-in-class question upvoting and moderation
- ✓ Runs inside PowerPoint, Teams and Webex
Watch out for
- – No student photos of any kind
- – Education prices are not shown publicly; billing is annual
How to choose an interactive classroom tool
-
1
Name the activity first. A quiz with right answers suits Kahoot!; a question you want counted or charted suits Mentimeter; a question the room asks you suits Slido; a sentence, idea or photo from every student suits QR Wall; a project that grows over days suits Padlet.
-
2
Check whether students need accounts. QR Wall, Slido, Mentimeter, Kahoot! and Wooclap need none; Padlet's Classroom plan includes student accounts, which helps for work you assess and gets in the way for a five-minute warm-up.
-
3
Read the free limit against your class size and timetable: Mentimeter 50 participants a month, Wooclap five questions a month, Padlet three boards, Kahoot! Go 10 or 40 players per game, QR Wall 5 answers on screen at a time.
-
4
Decide who approves what reaches the projector. With younger students that matters: QR Wall's approval queue (Professional) holds every post until you tap yes, and Slido's paid plans moderate questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best free interactive tool for a classroom?
It depends on the activity. Kahoot!'s free Go plan runs quizzes for small groups, Mentimeter's free plan allows 50 participants a month, Padlet gives three free boards, Slido's free plan takes 100 participants per event, and QR Wall's free plan puts students' answers and photos on the projector with 5 on screen at a time. For a whole class every week, most teachers end up on a paid plan of one tool.
Do these tools have education discounts?
Most do. Mentimeter's education plans are $8.99 (Basic) and $14.99 (Pro) per presenter per month billed yearly; Kahoot!'s teacher plans start at $3 a month billed annually; Padlet's Classroom plan starts at $160 a year for two teachers in the US. Slido and Wooclap sell education plans without a public price. QR Wall gives school and university accounts, and registered nonprofits, education pricing on Professional.
Which classroom tools work without student accounts?
QR Wall, Slido, Mentimeter, Kahoot! and Wooclap all let students join from a code or a link in the phone's browser without signing up. Padlet lets visitors post without logging in if the teacher allows it, and its Classroom plan adds managed student accounts for work you want to track.
Can students post photos of their work to the projector?
With QR Wall, yes: a student photographs a worksheet or drawing and it appears on the projector in about a second. Padlet accepts photos on a board, and Wooclap's Message Wall accepted photos when we checked. Mentimeter, Kahoot! and Slido cannot show a student's photo.
